Ann was born as Ann Merriman on April 7, 1933, in Greensboro, North Carolina and departed this world on June 22, 2024. She was born into the union of Mae and Grady Merriman. She spent her childhood in Monroe, Louisiana where she began her creative life at the age of two with her first art adding her artistic expression to wallpaper. She graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1951 and attended Louisiana State University for a year in 1952.
Ann was a multi-faceted lady with a love for creativity and knowledge. She was a beauty and one of the most intelligent and talented people one could ever meet.
Her adventurous spirit took her to New York City, where she was accepted to Cooper Union to study Fine Arts from 1952-1954. Falling in love with fashion design and being a model at the time, she continued her studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Art in fashion design in 1956. Other academics would include the Atelier in Tel Aviv, Arts Students League in New York, and the New York School of Design.
As an ambassador for the arts, she served communities around the world in support of continued arts programs and education. Amongst those, she served on the board of the Historical Arkansas Museum in Little Rock in the 1990’s.
This artistic life took her around the world where she called Holland, England, Israel, and Paris home. Of her European residences, England was her favorite. She had art shows in these wonderful cities throughout her adult life. In April of 2023, a retrospective of her career as an artist was showcased with the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council and the distinctive recognition as a Bayou Icon by Bayou Life Magazine to culminate and celebrate such an extraordinary life.
Marrying her first husband in 1959, Samuel Cohen Johananoff, she left for Europe where she lived for seven years until 1966. Her daughter Pamela was born, and Ann returned with her young child to be closer to her family.
The talent was endless as she could paint, draw, sculpt. No medium was too daunting for Ann. In 1966, she earned another degree in Fine Art from Northeast Louisiana College. In 1973, she married Dr. Francis Xavier Cline, Jr. with whom she lived a beautiful life until his passing in 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Trent Galloway; daughter, Pamela Johananoff, her stepdaughter, Colleen Cline Stewart (Jim) and her children, Caroline Johnson Ortego, Connor La Baume Johnson, Mirijam Stewart, her stepson Francis Xavier Cline, III, her stepdaughter Cathy Cline Goggin (Tim), her step grandchildren, Kevin Goggin (Mandy), Emily Goggin Murphy (Colin), & Patrick Goggin.
A public visitation will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.
A private family graveside service will take place following. Ann’s daughter, Pamela and stepdaughter, Colleen, will announce a celebration of her life at a later date.
Services are under the direction and care of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.
